I have some friends coming in from out of town, what are the main spots to hit in NYC on foot?

If you are going for a real taste of NY, I'd recommend the Tenement Museum's tours in the building or of the lower east side. Also the highline for its spectacular setting. Take them to the non-touristy parts of New York like the lower east side, south Chinatown, west village and meat packing neighborhoods.
